How do I complete the FAFSA?

Going to college is one of the most important investments you’ll ever make. Making sure you find the right financial fit is key, and filling out the FAFSA is an important step.

After you’re admitted to Colorado State, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get started on your path to receive federal and state financial aid including grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans.

What is the FAFSA?

Simply put, the FAFSA is a form that students and families can fill out every year that helps determine their eligibility for some financial aid. While it isn’t required that every student submit it, it is highly recommended. Even if you don’t think you’ll need the aid or you’ll be eligible, the FAFSA sometimes is required for other scholarships or programs that you might be interested in. While undocumented college students are not eligible for federal financial aid, CSU and the state of Colorado have other financial opportunities.

Is there a deadline?

Students are encouraged to submit it before March 1. The application opens in December, and the sooner you submit yours, the sooner you will receive information about what you are awarded.

How do I fill it out?

Filling out the form can be quick and easy if you have the right materials ready to submit. The FAFSA asks for information about your financial situation, so you’ll need a few things like your and your family’s tax information, your Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number, and banking and investment balances.
