Colorado State University GUEST Program
General Information
Granting University Enrollment for a Specific Term (GUEST) is a registration option for community members who wish to take one or two University classes during a fall or spring semester without applying for formal admission to a degree program. The GUEST program offers opportunities for personal enrichment, career enhancement, and academic exploration. GUEST participants register for classes on a space available basis after all regularly-admitted students have had the opportunity to register.
(Individuals wishing to take summer courses without being formally admitted should complete the Summer Only application process. For more information, consult the Summer Session website.)
+ Eligibility Requirements
-
GUEST is intended for individuals seeking to take courses for personal or professional enrichment and enhancement.
-
GUEST credits can be applied toward undergraduate degree requirements; however, in order to graduate, a student must be admitted to and currently enrolled in a degree program.
-
Not all GUEST credits are applicable to graduate degrees. Second Bachelor's/Post-graduate students who intend to take GUEST course work at the graduate level before applying for admission to a graduate degree program should seek advising from the Graduate School and departmental adviser before enrolling through GUEST.
-
Students who were previously enrolled as degree-seeking (admitted) students and who are eligible to return as degree-seeking students must complete and submit the Undergraduate Intent to Return form, accessed through the online application; enrolling through GUEST is not an option.
-
Students who have been academically dismissed and who are attempting to repair their CSU GPA through GUEST must achieve a term GPA ABOVE 2.0 for each term of enrollment. For all other GUEST participants, continued enrollment through GUEST requires a minimum 2.0 GPA for each term of enrollment.
-
Students admitted to a graduate degree program should not use the GUEST registration process. Please contact the Graduate School at gschool@grad.colostate.edu or (970) 491-6817 for further instructions.
+ The GUEST Application Process
-
Because GUEST participants are cleared to take classes one term at a time (fall or spring), an online GUEST application must be submitted each term. Generally, the GUEST application becomes available in July for the fall term and in December for the spring term.
-
GUEST applicants are required to submit a $25 nonrefundable application processing fee for each term they apply for GUEST (effective beginning Fall 2009).
-
The GUEST application is not an application for admission to a degree program, so no transcripts or supporting documents are required.
-
The Spring 2010 GUEST application will be available from December 1 until 5pm January 27.
+ Registration Information
-
A valid email address is required of all GUEST applicants.
-
Registration instructions are emailed once the GUEST application has been submitted and processed.
-
Before registering for courses, GUEST participants must create an eID and complete a limited number of online steps to be "registration ready." These steps include details about GUEST policies, procedures, and charges.
-
All registration is done online and begins the Friday before the first day of classes each spring and fall semester. The online registration system includes details about space availability and alternate sections of courses and offers instant confirmation of registration.
-
Students with prior academic history at Colorado State University may have holds that need to be cleared before registration is possible. Examples of registration holds include: unpaid past-due balance; lack of immunization records; and conduct/discipline holds. Any holds that need to be cleared will be identified in the"registration ready" process.
-
GUEST participants are eligible to register for up to six (6) credits (or 2 classes) per academic semester (fall and spring).
-
Participants are eligible to register for most courses, provided space is available and prerequisites have been met. The class schedule is available at http://classschedule.colostate.edu/. Some high demand courses are not available to GUEST students (refer to the listing on the Registrar's website).
+ Academic Advising and Academic Standing Requirements
-
Academic advising is available through the Center for Advising and Student Achievement in the TILT building on the Oval.
-
Classes taken through GUEST registration establish a Colorado State University record and appear on a Colorado State University transcript.
-
All GUEST participants with a Colorado State University cumulative GPA below 2.0 are strongly encouraged to meet with an academic adviser at the Center for Advising and Student Achievement to ensure proper academic advising.
-
Students who have been academically dismissed may register through GUEST to attempt to repair their Colorado State University GPA. Dismissed students must achieve a semester GPA ABOVE 2.0 in order to demonstrate academic progress and to maintain GUEST eligibility for the next semester. The cumulative GPA at Colorado State University will be affected (for better or worse) by grades earned through GUEST.
-
GUEST participants who are not in CSU academic dismissal status must achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA each semester in order to maintain eligibility for GUEST.
-
GUEST participants who do not meet the minimum semester GPA guidelines outlined above during the spring semester can regain eligibility for fall semester GUEST enrollment provided they meet the GPA guidelines with Summer Only enrollment.
- GUEST Tuition, Fees, and Billing
-
GUEST participants' base tuition and fees are determined by their residency for tuition classification and number of credits (1-6). Students will not be cleared to register through GUEST until their residency has been determined. Please note: GUEST applicants must fully complete the residency section of the application each time they apply; tuition classification does not carry over from term to term in GUEST.
-
GUEST cost of attendance also can be impacted by the type of courses taken, charges for technology, and special course fees.
-
GUEST participants are not eligible for financial aid.
-
Students are billed for tuition and fees in two installments after registering for courses. The first payment is due in the first full month of the semester (September for fall/February for spring); the second payment is due in the second full month of the semester (October for fall/March for spring).
-
The cost of attendance includes student fees that allow GUEST participants to take advantage of career and academic advising, the full range of campus activities and services (including athletic and performing arts events), special events, and campus laboratory facilities. The Admissions website includes links to a wide variety of campus activities and important student services. However, some student organizations and sports clubs require members to be regularly enrolled students.
Special Information for Colorado Resident undergraduate GUEST participants
- Colorado resident undergraduate GUEST participants may be eligible for the College Opportunity Fund (COF), which provides State tax dollars to college and universities on behalf of eligible Colorado resident undergraduates. Students must apply one time with the State and either each term or for a life time authorize the University to request the stipend on their behalf. To apply, go to https://cof.college-assist.org. Students must have all course registration in place by course census date(s) to receive the stipend. Registration changes after course census dates are not eligible to receive COF funding.
- Colorado resident GUEST participants will have a HOLD placed on their registration until they demonstrate satisfaction of the State of Colorado "Lawful Presence" Requirement (House Bill 1023). Details are available at http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Registrar/HB.1023.html. Students who satisfied this requirement in a previous term do NOT have to do so again.
+ GUEST Housing
Effective Fall 2009, GUEST students who are taking at least six (6) credits may live in campus residence halls according to the following parameters:
- Residence hall housing is offered on a space-available basis after all new and returning students have been placed.
- Students who were dismissed from CSU for disciplinary reasons are not eligible to live in campus housing.
- Students with prior disciplinary records (but not disciplinary dismissal) may be eligible for campus housing after review and approval by Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services.
Refer to the Residence Life website for more information about campus housing and to access the online housing application.
