The Freshman Admissions Index

The Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) mandates that the admissions standards used by all 4-year public colleges/universities in Colorado include the Admissions Index. The Admissions Index is the starting point in the admission decision process using a student's grade point average (GPA), class rank (if applicable) and ACT and/or SAT results. Please be sure to refer to the Admissions Requirements section of our Future Freshmen site for complete information about the broad range of factors used in the admission decision beyond the Admissions Index.

To utilize the Admissions Index, match the row for your cumulative GPA (grade 9 - present) or High School Rank on the left axis with the column for your highest ACT Composite or SAT Combined score (Math & Critical Reading only; do not include the writing score) on the top axis. You can also use our online index calculator.

Important information for students who are homeschooling or enrolled in a non-graded educational setting.

Strong Candidate

Strong Candidate
If your qualifications place you within the Strong Candidate range, and you have successfully completed* all high school course work requirements, and all other factors in your record are consistent, your chances for admission are very strong. Historically, 90-95% of admitted freshmen present credentials within the Strong Candidate range.

High-ability students within the Strong Candidate range are automatically considered for an admission-based scholarship if admitted by March 1.

Candidate for Admission

Candidate for Admission
If your qualifications place you within the Candidate range, and you have successfully completed* all high school course work requirements, and all other factors in your record are consistent, your chances for admission are good to strong.

An important component in the admission decision will be the presence of a well-written essay, letters of recommendation, and up-to-date support documents such as current grade reports and/or recent SAT or ACT results.

Potential Candidate for Admission

Potential Candidate for Admission
If your qualifications place you within the Potential Candidate range, and you have successfully completed* all high school course work requirements, and all other factors in your record are consistent, you may be a candidate for admission depending upon the strength of your credentials and the space available.

An important component in the admission decision will be the presence of a well-written essay, letters of recommendation, and up-to-date support documents such as current grade reports and/or recent SAT or ACT results.

*         For ALL APPLICANTS

Grades of D and F do not constitute successful completion. Course work may be deemed deficient and limit an applicant’s eligibility for admission. Be sure to include an explanation of grades of D or F, especially if you have not retaken the course.
