Competitive Majors
The following programs have more competitive admission requirements and may require
a higher academic achievement level and/or additional course work.
- Art
- Biology
- Biomedical Sciences
- Business
- Computer Science
- Engineering
- Technical Journalism
- Zoology
If you are admissible to the University but you do not meet the competitive admission requirements, we may admit you to a corresponding "pre" or "undeclared-exploring"
interest area (e.g. undeclared-exploring life sciences) so that you may begin working
toward the prerequisites for entrance after enrolling. Once the prerequisites are
complete, you may qualify for the selected degree program. "Undeclared-exploring"
and "pre" programs are preparatory only, not degree-granting majors. Advisers
work closely with students to help them transition from these programs to degree-granting
majors.
Programs with Additional Requirements for Admitted Students
The following majors have additional requirements that must be satisfied once students
have enrolled in order to continue in upper-division courses (beyond first year).
Students work closely with academic advisers and/or departmental representatives
to prepare for the selection process.
Apparel and Merchandising (Design and Production concentration):
Admitted students must satisfactorily complete specific courses and participate
in a selective design activity/portfolio review.
Construction Management: All admitted students are placed into
"Pre-Construction Management." Admitted students must satisfactorily complete
specific courses to be eligible for consideration (the top 100 students are taken
each fall and spring semester).
Interior Design: Admitted students must satisfactorily complete
specific courses and participate in a selective design activity/portfolio review.
Landscape Architecture: All admitted students are placed into "Pre-Landscape
Architecture." Admitted students must satisfactorily complete specific courses
and participate in a selective design activity/portfolio review.
Music: All admitted students are placed into "Pre-Music"
and must audition for placement into a Music major (taped auditions considered).
The audition can be completed before admitted students enroll.
Admission to an "undeclared-exploring" or a "pre-" program does
not assure admission to the college, major, or professional program.
