High School Seniors

For most students, senior year is the culmination of the college prep process - time to apply for admission. Below is the application timeline most of our applicants follow. Please contact your student's admissions representative if you have questions about the application process.

SEPTEMBER

  • Accompany your senior at local college fairs and school "college night" presentations. At such programs, you can get information about all aspects of campus life, pick up an application for admission, and find out more about admissions requirements and application procedures. To see when a Colorado State representative will be in your area, take a look at our RAMS on the ROAD website.
  • Register to attend an on-campus visit program to learn about Colorado State's academic programs, student services, and campus community. At Colorado State, we offer several options to visit campus.
  • Encourage your senior to take the ACT or SAT test early in the fall if it is his or her first time or to improve on a previous test score.
  • Ask your senior to meet with his or her high school counselor to make college plans and to review Colorado State's admission standards and application deadlines.

OCTOBER

  • Encourage your senior to begin his/her personal essay and to request 2-3 recommendation(s) from counselors, teachers, and other individuals who know them well. The Future Freshmen How to Apply and Admission Standards sections include helpful tips for preparing the essay and recommendations. (While we only require one teacher or school-based recommendation as part of the application, it can be helpful to request a few for scholarship applications.)
  • Help your senior locate websites for researching scholarship opportunities. Colorado State University's Student Financial Services office provides a wealth of information about University-based scholarships as well as outside sources of funding.

NOVEMBER

  • Advise your student to apply for admission now. Though our priority application filing date is February 1, the holidays may be more relaxed if the application is in early.
  • Applicants are sent simple instructions for creating an eID (electronic identification) to access confidential online information about their student record. Encourage your student to create his/her eID and to check the status of the application online.

DECEMBER

  • Remind your student to submit his/her application for admission. Students must be admitted and meet all eligibility criteria by March 1 to be considered for merit-based scholarships.

JANUARY

  • The priority application filing date for Fall 2008 is February 1. Applicants are encouraged to submit a completed application before this date.

FEBRUARY - MAY

  • After the February 1 priority application filing date (but not later than July 1), applications are considered on a space available basis. Information about space availability will be posted online.
