Education: BMus in Percussion Performance, Florida State University (1990), MMus in Percussion Performance, Southern Methodist University (1992), PhD candidate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, University of Washington
What I like best about CSU:I am proud to join an institution that is so willing to innovate to help its students be better contributors to their communities. CSU's efforts in establishing living-learning communities are groundbreaking, and Colorado State is setting the pace for colleges around the country through its leadership as "The Green University." The campus's great care for both its campus community and larger society make it a great fit for students from Hawai'i.
Favorite Music:I love all kinds of music at different times for different reasons. But a few of the things I play most on my iPod lately include Keali'i Reichel's Ke'alaokamaile, Radiohead's In Rainbows and a live recording of Van Cliburn performing the Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No. 2 live in Cold War Moscow. Plus, I love to find new "local" music at the Aloha Stadium swap meet whenever I visit O'ahu.
Interests/hobbies:I can't get enough of baseball, music, or good food (including cooking). Favorite local food includes ahi poke, crackseed, and li hing mango.
What I would give as advice to an applicant:When you apply to college, whether it's CSU or anywhere else, don't try to be someone you're not. We're admitting students who will be roommates, not just classmates, and so we enjoy the chance to learn what you do besides study and we need to understand what sort of match you would make for our campus community once you get here. We can only get as clear a picture of that as you give us. And if you're nervous about the application process, or have questions, ask us!
