Club Sports Open Competitive Athletics to More Students

When you think of college athletics, you probably think of the NCAA—football, basketball, ESPN, March Madness, and the BCS, right?

Chances are, your mind probably doesn’t jump right to club sports, but after getting to know Colorado State, it will. While CSU is a well-known NCAA Division I school, the Rams are also a powerhouse on the club sports scene.

Club Sports offer you competitive athletic experiences at the regional and national level. While each club team has a coach and most have tryouts, they are student-run organizations that emphasize leadership skills as well as physical prowess. CSU has 27 sports clubs, including baseball, alpine ski racing, snowboarding, lacrosse, ice hockey, in-line hockey, wrestling, ultimate, rodeo, tennis, crew, rugby and soccer.

The list of team accomplishments is a long one. Here are some highlights:

  • The baseball team recently won the 2008 NCBA National Championship (their fourth title in five years).
  • The women’s lacrosse team won the 2008 WDIA National Championship.
  • The men’s lacrosse team finished third at the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association National Tournament.
  • The alpine ski team finished ninth at the national tournament in Maine.

These honors, as well as dedication to leadership development, have made the CSU club sport program one of the strongest in the country. For more information, visit campusrec.colostate.edu.
