A concentration allows you to specialize in a certain area within your major, offering a depth of information and hands-on experiences that you may not otherwise get. Many students in this major will concentrate in one area to work in a specific field after college, as well as find mentors and internships before they even graduate.
You’ll develop expertise in surface and shallow-subsurface processes that shape the Earth and provide important soil and water resources for human and natural use.
A practical and field-oriented approach prepares you for employment opportunities as a geologist in the energy and mining industries, government agencies, and consulting firms.
You’ll get a strong foundation in geology with additional depth in geophysics, physics, mathematics, and associated quantitative and computer skills.
You’ll study and receive training in water resources and allied disciplines, while ensuring that you’re well prepared for a variety of geological fields.
You’ll have a range of relevant career options in the private and public sectors, including environmental management, energy resources, water resource management, construction services, mining, power generation, computer software, and many other industries doing exploration, development, production, communications, building, management, and research.
