A concentration allows you to specialize in a certain area within your major, offering a depth of information and hands-on experiences that you may not otherwise get. Many students in this major will concentrate in one area to work in a specific field after college, as well as find mentors and internships before they even graduate.
You’ll develop expertise in near-surface processes that shape the Earth while striving to provide important and sustainable water and critical mineral resources.
A traditional, practical, and field-oriented approach prepares you for broad employment opportunities as a geologist in the energy and mining industries, government agencies, and consulting firms.
You’ll get a strong foundation in geology and learn to measure Earth’s surface and explore its interior with additional depth in geophysics, physics, mathematics, and computational skills.
You’ll receive rigorous training in water resources and allied disciplines, ensuring that you’re well prepared for a career in this high-demand field.
The world needs geologists now more than ever to solve critical problems and help make society sustainable. There are career options in both the private and public sectors, including environmental and land management, energy resources, water resources, construction services, critical minerals, spatial analysis and remote sensing, and research.
