Roommate matching 101

Trio sitting together at student center

At Colorado State, we believe in giving our students the power to shape their on-campus living experience. This includes the option to find and request roommates. To make the roommate search as flexible as possible, we offer an easy-to-use roommate selection tool on the housing portal.

What is the housing portal?

The housing portal is the site for all things applications, assignments, roommate matching, and more. It includes links to housing resources, important dates, and other information that may be useful for all students living on campus.

How does it work?

Beginning later in the spring and continuing into the summer, students who have completed their housing application will have an opportunity to 1) create a profile that includes details about their lifestyle preferences 2) review profiles of other students, and 3) request one another as roommates. When two admitted students request each other as roommates, the match is set.

Students will be notified when they can begin the matching process and when the tool will be closing.

Do I have to use the housing portal to select a roommate?

The housing portal is the only way to select and match with a preferred roommate. Matching with a roommate is optional, so for those who choose not to match with a roommate in the portal, roommate assignments will be made using the lifestyle info provided on the housing application.

Questions?

Our Housing & Dining Services office knows the ins and outs of the housing application, assignment process, and the portal. They’re happy to guide you through the details. If you’re not sure whether it’s right for you or you’re having trouble using it, contact them.
