Beyond books: Helpful services you’ll find at CSU’s Morgan Library

Morgan library outside

One of the things that really levels up when you go from high school to college is the library. At Colorado State, the William E. Morgan Library is four massive floors of books, technology, study and reflection rooms, cozy seating, and enough knowledge and specialty assistance to blow your mind. Here are just five (of many!) unexpected services you’ll find when you walk in the door.

#1. Help and training on research

Learning how to do proper research and knowing where your resources might be is a challenge that many college students are unprepared for. The library can get you started in research no matter which level you’re at, from “never done academic research before” to “I’m writing my thesis.” Get help based on subject matter or specific courses, including assistance on properly citing resources. And, while you can turn to librarians for any question about research, sometimes it feels easier to ask a fellow student. Peer research mentors can help you get started finding sources for a research paper and build your confidence with research skills.

#2. Study spaces, meeting rooms, and more

Need a seriously focused study session? A place for your group project to hack out details and get work done? A room to take a breather and refresh? The library has you covered. You can reserve a private study room or a group study room, or recharge yourself (or a group!) in one of the reflection rooms for some quiet time or meditation.

#3. Lending library (devices, printing, and even skeletons!)

Let’s get that last one out of the way first! Yes, you can borrow a skeleton from the library. There’s nothing quite like access to a skeleton or other models when you’re studying anatomy, and you can borrow one from the library to bring it all to life.

Need a laptop, calculator, charger for your phone, tablet, or other device? You can get one from the library easily with device checkout. And, of course, you can print or make copies. Need something else? Give the library a call; they just might have it!

#5. Cool workshops, author visits, and more

Did you know the library has a slew of workshops, talks, and guest visits you can join throughout the year? Want to enhance your coding skills? Join the coding workshop. Want to meet a poet laureate? Don’t miss their evening reading and Q&A session. Keep up with the library’s events calendar and make sure you don’t miss the goods!
