Starting college is an entirely new chapter: A time for transformation, a time for challenge, and a time to become who you were always meant to be. It’s a big step, and that’s why we’re here to walk you though some of the biggest surprises waiting for you as a Colorado State Ram your first semester. There are so many exciting surprises waiting for you. Read on to learn more.
#1. Making new friends
Because [mostly] everyone around you is going through the same things as you are, it lays the foundation for some of the greatest friendships you will ever make. From meeting your new roommate to bonding over projects in your classes to simply sitting next to someone in the dining hall, new connections are waiting for you. More on the introverted side? CSU has options and support for introverts, as well as hundreds of clubs and organizations that will guide you to people with the same interests.
#2. Finals
Ahh, finals. Lore around this closing journey in a class often brings a sense of stress and trepidation … but it doesn’t have to! Think of finals as the last piece of a LEGO® sculpture: You worked hard to get to that point, you know how it’s supposed to look, and all you have to do is add that final touch. Then you can step back, check out this awesome accomplishment, and move on to the next one. Plus, just like completing a course at CSU, the knowledge you gained will help you tackle future sets (or classes) in the future.
What’s more? You don’t have to do it alone. The Institute for Learning and Teaching (TILT) offers study groups, tutoring, academic resources/support and programs that will get you prepared for any final or end-of-year project. Need extra study time? The Lory Student Center (LSC) has extended hours so you can always find a quiet place to focus. There’s also tons of perks around campus, like free or discounted (brain) food, therapy dogs, and the occasional CAM the Ram appearance. We’re all in this together!
#3. Clubs & new interests
At CSU, you don’t have to be an elite athlete or math buff to be part of a club or organization. Do you believe in the power of helping people? There’s a club for that. Have a passion for environmental health? There’s a club for that too. Looking for a club that supports women? You guessed it … there are even clubs for that.
#4. Traditions
Once a Ram, always a Ram. That’s a promise at Colorado State University, and with that comes a variety of traditions and ultimately a way of life for students and graduates alike. Whether it’s cheering on the Rams at a game, or hiking to The “A”, these traditions are ones you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
