A degree in communication studies prepares you for the shifting demands of life, career, and community. You develop invaluable skills that the world needs: verbal and written communication, leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, global understanding, personal accountability, inclusive teamwork, self-reflection, creativity, and digital proficiency. These diverse skills will enable you to pursue your dreams, create new opportunities, and make a difference in the world. Choose from three areas of study within the major: film and media studies, relational and organizational communication, and rhetoric and civic engagement.

A concentration allows you to specialize in a certain area within your major, offering a depth of information and hands-on experiences that you may not otherwise get. Many students in this major will concentrate in one area to work in a specific field after college, as well as find mentors and internships before they even graduate.
This specialized concentration allows you to pursue a teaching license in teaching speech and communications in the state of Colorado.
As a Communication Studies grad, you’ll be trained to think independently and critically, communicate effectively, and function in a multicultural world. Employers appreciate communication studies majors for their multiple skills and their ability to adapt to a variety of tasks and work environments. You’ll find employment opportunities in public relations/marketing, politics, sales, human relations, government, business management, convention and meeting planning, education, and social media. You also have the option to move on to graduate work in communication studies and to post-graduate study in business, law, theology, and beyond.
