Are you fascinated with the science of living things?
Biology majors study life at every level – from DNA to ecosystems. In the major, you’ll learn hands-on in classes and laboratories studying animal and plant life including ecosystem sciences, genetics, sustainability and climate adaptation, behavior, and more. Underpinning all of this work is a rigorous core of physical science and mathematics courses. You’ll get a solid foundation of understanding in the basic biological sciences, and opportunities to work closely with faculty on research.

A concentration allows you to specialize in a certain area within your major, offering a depth of information and hands-on experiences that you may not otherwise get. Many students in this major will concentrate in one area to work in a specific field after college, as well as find mentors and internships before they even graduate.
Focusing in biological science will include introductory biology courses along with cell biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolution, and genetics. You’ll work alongside peers and professors in labs and hands-on learning practicums as you explore the science of living things.
Concentrating in botany will allow you to focus on plants and plant-like organisms from microscopic algae to giant redwoods, and from fungi to flowers.
A degree in biology prepares you for a wide variety of occupations. You’ll graduate with a broad foundation for professional degrees in nursing, dental, medical or veterinary school, and a number of health professions such as physician’s assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry or public health. You’ll also be ready pursue advanced degrees in life sciences to carry out basic research or advance into leadership positions.
