At a glance

If you enjoy interacting with children and helping families, you may enjoy studying early childhood education. You will take classes about child development and how family, community, and culture play a role in this dynamic period of the lifespan. You’ll learn how environmental and social factors affect physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children ages 0-8 years old (infants-3rd grade). You’ll start with advising and classes in the Department of Human Development and coursework in teacher licensure. The first two years of your program can be completed on-campus or online.

Some Career Options

You’ll graduate ready to apply for state licensure in early childhood education, and will have met requirements for the Large Center Childcare Director Qualification in Colorado. Upon graduation, you’ll be ready to begin making a meaningful difference in the community, working in a wide range of childcare areas, including infant-to-toddler programs, in-home or non-home childcare, and public/private schools, serving preschool through the third grade. Many graduates pursue teaching endorsements and advanced degrees to increase their teaching options.
