Completing your application should be straightforward. Be sure to read the tips for completing your application quickly (below) for the best experience.

Graduate applicants: refer to submission instructions for the department(s) to which you applied.

$50 Application Fee or Fee Waiver

  • Your application will not be reviewed for a decision until your application fee has been submitted.
  • Information about our application fee refund policy is here.
  • CSU Application: You’ll be prompted to pay your application fee after you submit your application. Look for the payment tool on the confirmation page you see after you submit. Fees are payable by Visa or MasterCard.
  • Common Application (freshman applicants only): You’ll be prompted to pay your application fee at the same time you submit your application.
  • Fee waivers are available when payment would present a financial hardship. Within the CSU Application payment tool, there’s a link to the Fee Waiver Request form (requires login). Within the Common App, the fee waiver request is built into the application (look for the section on the “Profile” page).

High School Transcript

In your application, you may be prompted to list the name and email address of the High School Official who can release your official transcript to CSU (typically the Registrar or College Counselor). We’ll send an email to the person you’ve listed, outlining the options for your official transcript to be sent to CSU:

  • Upload a transcript directly to your application record using a secure link included in the email we send.
  • Upload a transcript via Naviance (be sure you identify in Naviance whether you applied via Common App or CSU Application). Other secure site submission options are welcome.
  • Email your transcript as a PDF or Word document to
  • Mail your transcript to Colorado State University, Office of Admissions, 1062 Campus Delivery, Fort Collins CO  80523-1062.

If you already have graduated from high school, you may have to contact your district office rather than your high school to obtain an official copy of your transcript.

Some high schools will not release transcripts to us until you have paid and/or signed a release. Make sure you check with your high school well in advance of the application date.

College Transcript(s)

Electronic submission of college transcripts is supported and preferred whenever possible. Most commonly, we receive paperless college transcripts via Parchment/Docufide, eScript-Safe, ConnectEDU and the National/Colorado Transcript Centers, and we are willing to access electronic transcripts through any other secure sites hosted by the sending institution.

Official Test Results (e.g., ACT, SAT, AP, IB, CLEP, GED, TOEFL, IELTS, PTE)

You can submit test scores to us through the testing agency (allow 2-3 weeks for score reports to arrive at CSU):

We also will accept unofficial results of the ACT, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS and/or PTE from a student score report or high school transcript as long as all subscores, test date(s) and applicant name are included on one record. Log in to RAMweb (you’ll need your eID) to upload scores on your applicant status page, or email your score report for consideration.

GED, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and CLEP must be official score reports.

Not all tests are required for all applicant types; be sure to reference the Application Guide for your instructions.

Personal Statement and Recommendation(s) (Freshman/First-Year Applicants only)

Personal Statement

You’ll be prompted to type or copy/paste your personal statement into your application before you can submit.

The writing prompts and instructions are the same whether you’re using the Common App or the CSU Application.


All freshman applicants must submit at least one recommendation, preferably from a teacher OR counselor familiar with your academic strengths and background. We’ve compiled this short list of other recommendation dos and don’ts.

CSU Application

Within the CSU Application, you’ll be prompted to list the name(s) and email address(es) of your recommender(s). Your recommender(s) will receive a courtesy invitation and a secure link to upload a letter or comments directly to your application.

Common Application

In order to give you maximum flexibility, we do not require that you list a teacher within your Common Application. However, if you choose to list a teacher, the Common App will send them an email with instructions and a link to a secure site to access the Teacher Evaluation form.

We accept EITHER the Common App Counselor Recommendation OR the Common App Teacher Evaluation to complete your application for admission.

Regardless of the application you use, we prefer that your recommendation be submitted electronically through the secure link provided. If necessary, recommendations can be submitted electronically as PDF or Word attachments emailed to

Immigration Documents (International Applicants needing student visa only)

Although immigration documents are not required for an admission decision to be rendered, international applicants are strongly encouraged to include immigration information within the application packet to streamline the admission process.

You will be prompted to complete an Immigration Information form from within the CSU Application or from your online application checklist.

Financial support documents and a copy of the identification page of your passport (and of your dependents’ passport(s), if applicable) can be uploaded directly to your application using the tool in your online application status page or emailed to as PDF or MSWord attachments.

If necessary, immigration documents can be expressed to Office of Admissions, Colorado State University, 1062 Campus Delivery, Fort Collins CO 80523-1062; you’re encouraged to use caution given the sensitive nature of the identifying information.

Additional Support Documents

Documents beyond those listed here may be listed as required once we begin processing and reviewing your application. Be sure to check your application status regularly for updates.

Except for official academic records, most additional documents can be uploaded within your online applicant status page or emailed as PDF or Word documents to Make sure each document includes your full name and date of birth or other identifying information (not SSN).

Tips to help you complete your application quickly

Apply before you submit your documents.

  • Materials associated with applications are given priority handling
  • You’ll be able to monitor the status of your materials online
  • Complete Applications are reviewed in the order they were submitted.

Check your email and your applicant status page regularly.

  • Once we begin processing your application, you will see a customized checklist.
  • Until processing begins, your checklist will be tentative.

Allow time for documents to be matched to your application.

  • Materials are not instantly matched to your application. Allow 3-5 business days for documents submitted electronically to show as received (7-10 business days for documents submitted by mail).
  • Check with us before re-sending documents you know you’ve submitted.
  • Materials should only be faxed if you are explicitly instructed to do so by one of us.
